Wed., 29 Very miserable all day. Get the meals but give up after supper & go to bed. Not a very pleasant birthday. Am 49 to-day. Receive silk for a frilly waist from Carrie & 50 cents from the children. A tablet from Henrietta.

Thurs., 28 Resolved–to do nothing more toward clothing children, who are snappish & disobedient, who do not get up in the morning & are not interest (sic) in keeping the home in order. Storming & blowing a gale from the north. Storm in-doors. Anna scalds her face with some hot soup in Gertrudes hands. Henry carries the children to school.

Tues., 26 Quite warm & still moderating. Letter from Hattie. Henry & Bob fill the ice house. Benjamin gets an ugly cut in his forehead from an ice spade. Grace out school. I can just get about & feel extra miserable.
