March 27,, 1926

Sat., 27   Trying to go slow. Make a pudding for dinner & two pies for to-morrow. Have a “boiled dinner” with Helen’s spinage (sic) and some ham. The Wood girl works for Grace until Oslow fills the woodbox. The sad news comes of the death of Walter Barnes at Cook Academy, Montour Falls. He was electrocuted putting up a Radio on Tuesday at 3-30 in the afternoon. George Buck went after the body & the funeral was yesterday at East Aurora. I write Gertrude & Helena. Cards from Abe & a letter from Helena, writte by Mrs. Scarf (?).

I’ve been assuming that Gertrude’s family was living in Michigan at this time, but perhaps not, since East Aurora is in New York. I’m fairly certain that Helena is Ella’s niece, the daughter of her sister Helen Simonds.
