April 23, 1929

Tues., 23   Letter from Anna at last. Morning devotions. Dumas washes, irons some & does the work generally. Ben comes in as we sit down to dinner after which he goes to Bristol Pond for specimens. I have a heart attack. Grace goes down with Bertha Lewis to rehearse for the “show” to-night, has supper with the Hagars, goes on the stage as a bride to-night. The shine shines to-day.

Ben was an amateur archaeologist, it turns out.

Here’s a photo of him, courtesy of the Vergennes Historical Society. It was taken about the time that he graduated from Middlebury College in 1916.
