May 24, 1929

Fri., 24  Rains in the morning. Get the devotions. Henrietta comes out about 11 A.M., stays to dinner & takes me to Burlington. Get parlor curtains at Reynolds & some dress goods at the Bee Hive. Go no further, walking does me up. We get home at 5 o’clock. Henrietta is a dear girl. Letters from Gertrude & Hattie. Go early to bed. The sun smiled across our way as we journeyed to Burlington.

When I was a child, the “Bee Hive” was still on Church St. in Burlington. Change was returned to customers by way of a pneumatic tube. Very exciting for children!
