Sat., 26  Morning devotions.  Make 2 apple pies. Dumas doing the work. Grace goes down to practice in the afternoon, to sing to-night at Guernsey banquet. Karl comes for her after supper. Mr. Crighton’s barn burns & the back part of the house. Mrs. Hudson, frightened at the fire, drops dead of heart failure. This all occurs somewhere around 2 o’clock A.M.  Letter from Gertrude. Container arrives from Toledo. Feel wretched all day.
