November 26, 1929 & “Staglieno”

STAGLIENO

Within Staglieno’s marbled halls

The slanting sunbeams stray,

To light for us the sculptured walls

At the closing of the day.

No sound the solemn silence breaks

Save the echoes of our tread,

Where still white forms forever stand

To guard Genoa’s dead.
